Purpose:

Nashville Electric Service’s (NES) Music City Solar Program is a community solar program that allows residents under NES territory to buy a solar panel on an existing solar garden and receive discounts on their monthly bill based on the electricity the solar field produces. This program has been operating for years but has largely flown beneath the radar.

Our Goals:

• Improve Sign Up Process for Community Solar.
• Increase Nashville’s Participation in Community Solar.
• Donate $10k of Sunrise Funds and Fundraise $15k to purchase solar panels for Low Income Nashville families to pay to take ~5% off their monthly electric bills.

1. Donate to help us reach our 15k fundraising goal to purchase solar panels for Low Income Nashville families to pay to take ~5% off their monthly electric bills.
2. Invest in Community Solar yourself!

Cost:

The panels cost $144 per panel. A panel’s average monthly output per panel is 14 kWh. Subscribers will see a solar energy credit listed on their bill each month. The annual solar credit is approximately $11.88 per panel. You can buy multiple panels to cover the total cost of your electricity bill.

This solar program is based on the electricity volume produced, so even if electricity price raise for everyone so will the amount of your discount.

Pros:

• No panels on your roof
• Price-stable investment: even if electricity prices raise, so will your discount.
• Helping local clean energy: support local environmentally friendly energy production with the solar farm located along I-65 on Old Due West Avenue near TriStar Skyline Medical Center in North Nashville.
• Renter-friendly: all households in NES territory are eligible.

• More expensive than other programs in other states

Instructions for Subscribing to Solar Panels Yourself

1. To get started, log into My Account on nespower.com. If you don’t already have an online profile, select “Sign Up Now” on the My Account page. You’ll need the NES account number OR phone number tied to your account as well as the meter number OR last four digits of the account holder’s social security number.
2. After logging into My Account, access the “Subscribe” link in the left-hand navigation menu under Music City Solar. You’ll be directed to our community solar portal to select your panel subscription.
3. From the Solar Sign Up link within the community solar portal, choose the total number of panel subscriptions, provide beneficiary information (optional), select your payment method and accept program Terms & Conditions. You’ll receive a confirmation email including your subscription details.
4. Once subscribed, you’ll receive a monthly energy credit on your bill. You’ll also be able to monitor your panel output by logging into My Account at nespower.com and clicking on “My Solar Data” in the left-hand navigation menu.
